BIMI support depends on the receiving service and the application displaying the message. Google, Yahoo, and Apple publish different requirements; there is no universal logo-display guarantee.
- Gmail requires an accepted VMC or CMC.
- Yahoo can display eligible self-asserted logos.
- Apple Mail also relies on its underlying email provider meeting requirements.
Provider guidance at a glance
| Provider or app | Certificate guidance | Display considerations |
|---|---|---|
| Gmail | VMC or CMC required | VMC is the route to the Gmail verification checkmark |
| Yahoo / AOL | VMC not required | Bulk mail, reputation, and engagement are factors |
| Apple Mail | Evidence requirements apply | Both the sender and email service provider must qualify |
This is a focused comparison, not an exhaustive provider directory. Check the linked provider documentation before committing to a rollout.
Gmail: logo and checkmark are different
Google documents support for both VMCs and CMCs. Its checkmark is associated with VMC-verified senders; a CMC should not be described as providing the same badge. Technical and sender requirements still apply.
Yahoo: reputation matters
Yahoo’s published conditions include a valid logo record, enforced DMARC, bulk sending, and sufficient reputation and engagement. Its guidance says VMCs are not mandatory. A personal one-to-one test may therefore be a poor predictor of a bulk sender’s experience.
Apple Mail: consider the app and the service
Apple documents BIMI support in iOS 16, iPadOS 16, macOS Ventura 13 and later, and iCloud.com. It also says both the sender and email service provider must meet its requirements. The same app displaying different mail accounts may not produce identical results.
Confirm evidence requirements with Apple’s linked technical documentation rather than assuming that another provider’s certificate policy applies.
Build a useful test matrix
Use rows for sending streams and columns for recipient services and apps. Capture the date, app version where relevant, message authentication, and visible result. A single successful screenshot is one observation, not a complete support guarantee.
For other services, start with their own documentation and the BIMI Group’s provider overview. Separate confirmed support from planned or unverified support.
